Staying Joyful While Parenting
Though frustrations may come; staying joyful is what must be done to keep your sanity while parenting. Joy is an attribute that comes from God and it’s a gift from God. To be honest with you; there’s only one way to be filled with joy and that’s through the person of the Holy Spirit. I know some of you who may be reading this article may not be Christians or believe like I do, but if you are reading this article then one thing we both have in common are being parents. Parenting is a job you should enjoy, and you should be filled with joy to get you through the moments that’s challenging when it comes to dealing with your children’s attitudes and behaviors along with family distractions and disappointments. I’m at peace because I’m filled with the joy of the Lord. The joy of the Lord is my strength. You can only be filled with joy when you know the Lord Jesus Christ for yourself.
You may even be on the brinks of a martial break-up, family separation, or your child may be “sick and afflicted, locked-up” in jail or in juvenile detention but through it all, you can find joy in suffering, you can find joy in serving, you can find joy in believing and you can find joy in your giving. You do all the above when it comes to being a parent whether you are a single parent or if you are happily married. We all face different situations, some of our children have serious issues that’s health related in the areas of mental health, and some of us even have children who’s physically challenged. Some of us have children who have behavior problems that cause much heartache and pain.
Regardless of your circumstances whether they’re good, bad, or indifferent when you can get through each day and realized there was some “super-natural” power working on your behalf; then you can’t help to give credit where credits due. Chances are you know it wasn’t you but it was the Lord who carried and guided you through the dilemmas you had to endure. You can and will make it; because when you have the joy of the Lord working in your life you will find strength that only God can give to help you get through each and every day, one day at a time. I want to encourage you today to seek God for yourself, and get to know him personally for yourself. If you want to find joy and stay joyful I strongly recommend you open up your bible and read it to find the answers to all of life’s problems, and to find all the answers you need for directions for your life.
This world is like a wilderness and jungle in which we live, but the answers to all of life’s issues are written in the Word of God. To stay on course and to keep you in the right state of mind you need “super-natural-power” working in your life. Joy is an internal ingredient you do not want to live without. Here are a few passages of scripture to get you started with being filled with joy and keeping you filled when times of trouble come your way. Psalm 27:1, 4-7, 14. Psalm 18:30-32. Psalm 32:11, Psalm 61, 62, and 63. John 15:11, John 16:21-24 and Nehemiah 8:10.
Your child or children are an asset to you and not a liability. Look, Children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of your womb is a reward. Psalm 127:3. Children Are Responsible for their Own Actions
The telephone ring; it’s a call from your child’s teacher. The teacher is calling to inform you that your child has been disrespectful and disruptive in school. You calmly listen to the comments being made about your child and wonder in awl. It’s a fact children will be children regardless of where they are at. Over the years I’ve noticed how my own child has from time to time made me look and feel embarrass because of her actions. I have come to the conclusion to understand and realize she’s responsible for her own actions. I can only enforce the ground rules and help correct my child’s bad behavior with appropriate disciplinary action to convince her she’s only causing harm to herself and no one else.
The moment we as parents can teach this simple truth to our children, the sooner they will begin to learn they are truly responsible for what they think, say, and do. Children are responsible for their own actions. As your child continues to grow and do what they want to do in life, they will soon realize the way they act in public can make or break them to where they could become like a magnet to attract others to themselves in a positive manner; or they could become like the garbage in the kitchen that stinks and needs to be taken outdoors and put in the garbage can to the degree where no one wants to be around them. The choices children make today will determine there outlook on life. We all make mistakes, but then there should be a learning curve and process that only parents can give with correcting and directing their children to be the best citizens in their community and to make an impact on the world. The next your child and mine gets out of line and begins to clown and act a fool in public we should make sure they pay the price for their actions.
The bible is very clear with the universal law whatsoever a man sows, that he shall reap. Good behavior, producing great rewards. Bad behavior will result in consequences that could be painful for the moment, but it should result in a changed behavior and new attitude eventually. Children have to learn, just like you and I had to learn. The difference and impact I’m having with raising my daughter today is education. And I don’t mean text-book education. I mean life experience and life expectations we can pass on to our children today. The life experience you share with your child, age discretion required the earlier your child will realize how blessed and fortunate they really are to have parents that really do care what’s best for them. Our children may not understand all of this right now, but once they are grown and on their own; they will have flashbacks to the times when you took the time to educate, motivate, inspire, and encouraged them to be the best they could be across the board. All of life’s expectations are depended on our own actions. Teach your children today, they are responsible for their own actions.
Your child or children are an asset to you and not a liability. Look, Children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of your womb is a reward. Psalm 127:3. Appreciation For Your Child
I know there are times when our children can really be a pain in the butt. I know they can get on our nerves periodically. I know if it wasn’t for my child then I personally don’t think my life would have become what it has become today. It amazes me when I look back over the last twelve years of my life and see my daughter continuing to grow up. It seems like yesterday when I use to bathe her, feed her, and watching every move she made in the house so she wouldn’t run into any of the furniture. I know twelve years don’t seem like a long time; but if you have been through what I’ve been through over the course of her young life then you’ll understand why I appreciate my daughter.
Through it all though; my daughter has turned out to be a remarkable young lady. It’s funny how the years truly do fly. Now she’s off to school each and every day, catching the school bus, coming and going to her extra-curricular activities and enjoying the time of her life. I have to appreciate all that has happened in my life when it comes to me being a parent and raising my one and only daughter. She’s typical and like any other child, having her own way of thinking and she is the joy of my life. One thing I do is let my child know how much I appreciate her. Give your child their props now. Don’t wait until some sugar daddy comes along and sweet talk her and sweep her off her feet. Let her know now how remarkable she is to you and express your feeling towards your child. If you have a son then treat him the same way with the respect of not letting some sweet sugar momma sweep him off his feet and blow him into an outer-space entrapment.
Regardless of the challenges, pain and disappointment your child can bring into your life, it should help bring out the best in you. You and I made a conscience choice decision when it came to having children. So, it’s our responsibility to raise them to help shape and develop their character and watch them mature into young adults; but by the same token during this process your lifestyle and character should have been improved as you have grown as a parent, meaning if it wasn’t for the changes and attitude adjustments you had to deal with being a parent you never would have become the parent you are today. Are you a responsible parent today?
Regardless if you are a single-parent or are happily married, parenting is a two-fold deal. One good way of making sure you and your child are on one accord and are bonding is by showing how appreciative you are of him or her. This type of parenting will teach both you and your child how to have mutual respect for each other and it will show others in general how to have a good and lasting relationship with their children. Express your feelings to your child or children and let them know how much you appreciate them.
Your child or children are an asset to you and not a liability. Look, Children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of your womb is a reward. Psalm 127:3.
